The Canadian Chamber of Commerce Awards Bioindustrial Innovation Canada as one of Canada's Resou

BIC

SARNIA, Ontario - The Canadian Chamber of Commerce is pleased to recognize Bioindustrial Innovation Canada (BIC) as one of Canada's Resource Champions, for their outstanding efforts to promote natural resources development and trade in Canada. BIC's efforts help ensure a prosperous future for the natural resources sector, the Canadian economy and for all Canadians.

What is Canada's Resource Champions Award?

As many of you are aware, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce has made supporting natural resource development and trade a key priority. Canada’s mining, energy, forest product and agricultural industries are essential to the country’s prosperity, helping to support job creation, exports and innovation throughout the country.

It is our pleasure to announce the creation of the Canada’s Resource Champions Award to recognize and highlight the outstanding efforts of organizations or individuals who have helped to support Canada’s world-class resource industry. The award is a great opportunity for local Chambers of Commerce to recognize some of their members for their hard work and dedication to improving the long term health of the Canadian economy.

Who are Canada’s Resource Champions?

We define the resource sector as agriculture and agri-foods, fisheries, forest products, mining and energy production and transportation. We are asking local Chambers and Boards of Trade for nominations in two streams:

1) Canada’s Resource Champions – Individuals

These are individuals in your community (government officials, politicians, business person or civil society leaders) that have demonstrated one or more of the following qualities:

  • The individual has made significant efforts to support Canadian natural resource businesses or their suppliers by advocating for policies, programs or projects to encourage the sustainable development and trade of Canada’s natural resources.

  • The individual has promoted fact-based public dialogue on the natural resource sectors in their communities, particularly in discussions around environmental impacts or economic benefits. Examples include individuals that have engaged with media on these issues through interviews or op-ed, or that have made presentations or interventions in community gatherings.

  • The individual has made a significant contribution to aligning the interests of local aboriginal communities with sustainable natural resource development and trade. This could include developing programs to support aboriginal employment or businesses, or through developing and implementing environmental and cultural protection programs.

2) Canada’s Resource Champions – Organizations

These are organizations (businesses, associations, educational facilities, research organizations) that have demonstrated one or more of the following qualities:

  • The organization has supported the development of innovative products or processes to reduce negative environmental impacts of resource extraction/harvesting, processing or transport.

  • The business or organization does not operate directly in one of the natural resource sectors, but has supported Canada’s prosperity by expanding their role in natural resource supply chains either in Canada or abroad.

  • The organization has made a significant contribution to aligning the interests of local aboriginal communities with sustainable natural resource development and trade.
